Ella Jackson Obituary

Mrs. Ella Mae Motley Jackson was born March 17, 1921 to the late Joseph Phillip and Louella Motley in Lafayette, Indiana.

“Mammaw”, “Mother Dear” or “Mu-dear” as she was affectionately called had a passion for reading, math and science.  She attended Indianapolis Public School 17 and was a proud 1938 graduate of Crispus Attucks High School.

In 1939, Ella Mae Motley was united in marriage to Harold Jackson.   They remained married for more than 50 years and to this union four children were born, John, Patricia, Robert and Joann.

Ella professed an early acceptance in Christ when at the age of five she attended the New Liberty Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.  From there she joined the 17th Street Baptist Church.  She remained an active member of the Christ Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her adopted brother, Dr. Melvin B. Girton, Sr. and most recently, Rev. John Girton Jr.  Her greatest passion was serving the Lord and His people.  Ella was a member of the Altar Circle.  She brought joy to everyone she met by sending them a card for all occasions.  Ella was also a “Fashionista.”  She was best known for her array of beautiful hats.

Mrs. Ella Mae Motley Jackson departed this life on April 27, 2019 at 2:03 p.m.  She was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph, Frieda, Laura and Peg.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory five generations which include her children, Patricia Berryhill, Robert (Sherry) Jackson and Joann (James) Jones; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and many, many friends.  She will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
